Nope, not? painted for sure. I’ve had many painted coins. This one the surfaces are very funky and rough. Looks like lead but I know It’s not.

I guess that would be a matter of opinion. lol. I’ve had a counterfeit V nickel before that was made out of the wrong? material, part of it snapped off. There’s a lot of Chinese fakes that are passed off as genuine, but they are normally higher grade or key date coins.

Thanks for your 2 cents. If an error I was thinking the same thing, dime on a penny planchet. If I decide to send it in to PCGS I’ll? post the results. HH!

I found dozen of dimes like yours, its the soil that eats the? coins like this, CLAY soil eats the coins like yours, I sure of this, I been detecting the soil for 45 years.

i’ve seen silver coins come out pretty funky. but i don’t know. Did you do a silver text on it? If not get a silver test kit and you will know for sure. If it is counterfeit that’s? a pretty cool find. HH

I think that is not a fake coin. it seems? it had been buried in a cement for a long time.

Call the cops and tell them you have possible counterfeit money. When the SWAT Team, Sheriff, Homeland security and the FBI show up at your home they will be more than happy to tell you if it is real? or not. Make sure you get a video of it all for documentation purposes. hahaha! j/k

Wow. That’s? pretty beat up.

I don’t think this? is counterfeit, but more likely an error coin. My bet is, that it was a penny planchet struck by the Mercury Die. It would be fairly collectible.

That would trick me as well. Why fake a? dime also instead of half dollar or quarter. I would say its fake but if it was real I wouldnt be surprised.

Thats weird!?

Jockguy2008 March 18, 2013 at 2:11 AM

Yeah? seems pretty fake to me. Someone probably took a real one and made a cast and then poured some lead or something and made it. Then again you never know, maybe some kid swallowed it and pooped it out and you are touching it ewwww lol
Still a very neat find though.
PS: Did you try weighing it? That is a good test
